VONITA BENNETT
Vonita Gale Bennett has the honor of serving as the President of the Consolidated Baptist
Women’s Auxiliary and is the First Lady of Second Baptist Church in May’s Lick, KY.
Vonita is a native of Roanoke, Virginia where she was raised and actively pursued
ministry at Sweet Union Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Edward
T. Burton. Upon relocating to Kentucky in 2004, Vonita was under the pastorate of Rev.
Dr. Bishop Carter, III at Bethsaida Baptist in Lexington until she moved her membership
and service to Second Baptist in 2008 upon her husband’s calling as Pastor.
Vonita is proud to be married to a marvelous man of God, Pastor L. Rodney Bennett, her
former childhood sweetheart from Sweet Union Baptist. Together in Frankfort, they are
blessed with four wonderful children – Britain (Tara), Lumar (Kierra), Deonte and
Victoryous as well as 6 grandchildren.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro then pursued a long
career in retail management as Regional Store Planner with Kmart then Store Manager at
TJMaxx and Burlington Stores. Prior to transitioning to Kentucky, Vonita held the
position of Human Resource Director for the Roanoke Trane Office. Vonita has been
employed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Office of the Secretary of State for 20
years starting with Supervisor of Business Records, then onto other various capacities.
Sister Bennett strives to put faith in action by being obedient to God’s word in James
1:22 that admonishes us to “be ye doers of the word and not hearers only”. At Second
Baptist, she has organized the annual “Praise In the Park’ Community Fellowship, “Soles
for Christ” Shoe Drive and the Women’s Annual Community Christmas Tea along with
serving in various other ministries such as Youth Advisor, Usher Board, Choir, and
wherever needed. Her belief that “education is a family affair” has led her to volunteer
with YMCA Black Achievers, Franklin County Superintendent District Advisory Board,
KY PTA Commissioner, school PTA president and band boosters.
Her favorite scripture is Psalm 37:4, “Delight thyself in the Lord and he shall give thee
the desires of thine heart.” One of her favorite quotes is from Joyce Meyer, “sitting in a
garage doesn’t make you a car and sitting in church doesn’t make you a Christian”.
Remember, Christ wants a relationship with each of us. We are to follow Christ and live a
life like Him. As we grow in our relationship with the Father, we share our faith with the
next generation exclaiming His might acts and powerful works. To God be the glory for
all that He has done, Is doing and Will do!
